An encyclopedic collection of texts, laws, decisions and Jewish oral law. (The word itself means study). Its two main parts are the Hebrew Mishna, interpretations to the Five Books of Moses (the Torah) and the Gemara, written in Aramaic, which is a collection of commentaries and discussions on the Mishna. There are two Talmud compilations, the Jerusalem Talmud and the Babylonian Talmud. Studying the Talmud is a sacred duty of every Jewish man. The Talmud is often misused in antisemitic propaganda; several false and purposefully misconstrued translations have been published.
