Neologue

A Hungarian Jewish religious movement, which renewed religious rules in a liberal manner. It modernized and eased the dress code and dietary rules and changed liturgical customs, such as language of service and interior structure of the synagogue. The Neologue movement was particularly influential among communities in the western, southwestern parts of the country and in Budapest. The largest and most important Neologue community was the Pest Israelite Community. The umbrella organization of the Neologue was the National Office of Hungarian Israelites.
